Occupational Therapist I – Full-time Acute Care

About the role

The Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Miami Health System is seeking a full‑time Occupational Therapist I to provide evidence‑based rehabilitation services in an acute‑care setting.

Key responsibilities

• Perform evaluations of new patients, establish goals, and develop treatment plans.
• Document all evaluations, treatments, and pertinent patient interactions.
• Educate patients and families about the patient’s condition.
• Communicate effectively with the rehabilitation team, physicians, and staff, and adjust treatment plans as needed.
• Participate in quality and safety improvement activities.
• Supervise and instruct physical therapy students and support personnel.
• Contribute to program development, marketing efforts, and community education.
• Adhere to university policies and safeguard university assets.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy or a related field.
• Current Florida licensure in Occupational Therapy.
• No prior experience required.
• Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
• Strong attention to detail, ability to prioritize under pressure, and discretion with confidential information.
• Commitment to the university’s core values and ability to work independently or collaboratively.

Required skills

• Proficiency with clinical equipment such as walkers, crutches, canes, wheelchairs, lift equipment, hospital beds, commodes, goniometer, and traction devices.
• Accurate documentation skills.
• Knowledge of AOTA occupational therapy guidelines.
