Nutrition Educator

About the role

The Nutrition Educator provides nutrition and breastfeeding education and conducts nutrition assessments for the Women, Infants & Children (WIC) program. This full‑time, on‑site position offers stable hours, training, and the chance to improve community health.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct client assessment interviews, determine nutrition risk, and develop individualized WIC service plans.
• Provide nutritional and breastfeeding counseling in both individual and classroom settings.
• Prescribe WIC foods, educate clients on food purchasing, and maintain records in the WIC database.
• Coordinate communications with program staff, medical providers, DSHS, and other service organizations.
• Identify, design, and produce educational materials; assist with outreach and satellite site activities.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED minimum; Associate Degree in a related field preferred.
• At least two years of experience in WIC or a maternal/infant health setting.
• Valid driver’s license and auto liability insurance if personal vehicle is used.
• WIC State Competent Professional Authority Recognition (training provided).

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the WIC database system.
• Operation of manual and auto scales, height/length boards, hematocrit/hemoglobin analyzers, and blood‑draw techniques.
• Motivational interviewing and client‑centered interaction techniques.
• Basic cooking techniques and bilingual (Spanish/English) communication preferred.
