Nurse Educator – Diabetes Education (Per Diem)

About the role

The University of Miami/UHealth Diabetes Education program is seeking a Per Diem Nurse Educator to provide clinical education to nursing and patient‑care staff and to support evidence‑based practice for patients with diabetes. The role blends direct patient care with staff development, ensuring compliance with Joint Commission standards and UHealth policies.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver education and resources that enhance patient care and support staff development.
• Assist nursing staff with problem resolution, time management, and critical‑thinking skill development.
• Collaborate with physicians, patient‑care teams, and unit management to design and implement educational curricula.
• Conduct clinical skills activities, monitor data trends, and apply educational strategies to meet quality standards.
• Support the creation of patient‑care plans using evidence‑based research and national guidelines.
• Serve as a clinical resource for unit management to ensure high‑quality patient care.
• Provide in‑service training on new equipment, supplies, and instruments.
• Promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Current RN license.
• Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) certification.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Minimum two years of clinical nursing experience, preferably with diabetes patients.
• Experience in nursing education or staff development is a plus.
