Non-Certified Pharmacy Technician

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a non-certified pharmacy technician in its Lakeville pharmacy. The role supports pharmacists in preparing and distributing prescription medications while the employee works toward national certification. Duties include prescription processing, insurance billing, inventory and customer service. The position is hourly and reports to the store director, store manager, pharmacy department manager and staff pharmacists.

Key responsibilities

• Greet customers, answer simple inquiries and accept written prescription orders and refill requests at the discretion of the supervising pharmacist
• Contact doctors' offices to take or request refill prescriptions and gather accurate patient information
• Help pharmacists prepare prescription products for dispensing, label containers and prepare prescriptions to be mailed
• Prepare and submit insurance claims and assist with third-party billing and troubleshooting
• File dispensed prescriptions, report medication errors, and order, receive and stock supplies
• Process cash transactions accurately and administer vaccines where legally allowed and certified
• Maintain the pharmacy's cleanliness, protect patient privacy under HIPAA, and follow all pharmacy statutes and regulations
• Assist in other store areas as needed and take on special projects

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Working toward licensed technician certification through a certified national program
• Vaccination certification required if administering vaccines
• Previous experience as a pharmacy clerk preferred
• Ability to stand and walk frequently, handle repetitive tasks and be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and sharps

• Professional communication with patients, healthcare providers and coworkers

The anticipated starting hourly wage is $16.50 to $20.60 depending on experience. Employment is contingent on passing a pre-employment drug screen. Occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals or solvents occurs during compounding, and training is provided.
