Night Shift Mental Health Technician

About the role

The Mental Health Technician works night shifts on an inpatient behavioral health unit, providing supportive care to patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. This role helps maintain a safe, therapeutic environment and assists with daily living activities while contributing to patients' recovery.

Key responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as hygiene, nutrition, and mobility.
• Observe and promptly report changes in behavior, mood, or physical condition to the nursing team.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment.
• Monitor safety risks, including suicide precautions, elopement, and use of restraints per policy.
• Support therapeutic programming by encouraging participation and assisting in group activities.
• De‑escalate crisis situations using approved techniques.
• Accurately document patient care and progress in the medical record.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary treatment team to meet individualized treatment goals.

Required profile

• Ability to interact therapeutically with patients while maintaining professional boundaries.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of behavioral health principles, safety practices, and patient rights.
• Capacity to manage stressful situations and respond calmly in emergencies.
• Team‑oriented with strong interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to confidentiality and regulatory compliance.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, lift up to 50 lb, and perform frequent reaching, pushing, and pulling.
