Mobile Service Technician - Norfolk, VA

About the role

The Mobile Service Technician (MST) maintains and repairs light construction equipment such as skid steers, chippers, trenchers and mini-excavators at The Home Depot stores or nearby customer job sites. The MST makes routine visits to each store to inspect equipment, document its status, carry out preventive maintenance and complete work orders. The position reports directly to the regional manager and requires living within 20 miles of Norfolk, VA, with a Sunday to Thursday schedule from 8am to 4:30pm.

Key responsibilities

• Train store associates and customers on the proper operation of equipment and large equipment procedures, following all safety requirements including Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
• Maintain MEWP certifications, keep parts and fleet inventory accurate, transfer equipment between locations and deploy new equipment to stores, including pre-delivery inspections and training.
• Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance, inspect equipment for rental readiness and safe operation, and make minor repairs.
• Respond to service calls, order parts, use the company technology platform to document labor and parts, and assist with equipment deliveries and pickups.

Required profile

• Age 21 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States.
• Meets DOT medical certification requirements; specific vision and physical abilities listed.
• Associate's degree or equivalent in a related field preferred; 3 years of experience preferred.
• Valid driver's license and ability to work outdoors in varying conditions.

Required skills

• Preferred: 1+ year of experience servicing construction equipment, including small engines and hydraulics.
• Preferred: reading technical repair and parts manuals, inventory management, and handheld device use.
• Preferred: Microsoft Office Suite.

Pay range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Nevada, New York City, Ithaca (NY), Westchester County (NY) and Washington residents: $25.00 - $26.00.
