Mobile Service Mechanic (Rental Equipment)

About the role

The Home Depot is hiring a Mobile Service Mechanic (also called a Mobile Service Technician) to maintain a fleet of Home Depot-owned rental equipment. The mechanic makes routine visits to Home Depot stores and customer job sites within their market to perform maintenance and repairs on light rental construction equipment, with an emphasis on preventive maintenance. Candidates must live within a 20-mile radius of San Diego, CA, and work Tuesday to Saturday, 9:00am to 5:30pm. The position reports directly to the regional field operations manager.

Key responsibilities

• Train store associates and customers on the proper operation of the equipment and large equipment procedures, and follow all safety requirements, including Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
• Maintain MEWP certifications, keep parts and fleet inventory accurate, transfer equipment between locations, and deploy new equipment to stores (including pre-delivery inspections and training).
• Perform routine store inspections and preventive maintenance, inspect equipment for rental readiness, and make minor repairs.
• Respond to service calls, order parts, and use the company technology platform to document labor and parts.
• Assist with equipment deliveries and pickups, and perform other tasks assigned by the leader.

Required profile

• Age 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States.
• Meets DOT medical certification requirements; specific vision and physical abilities listed in the posting.
• Valid driver's license.
• Preferred: 1+ year of experience servicing construction equipment, familiarity with inventory management, and ability to work independently and in extreme outdoor conditions.

Required skills

• Preferred: reading and understanding technical repair and parts manuals (mechanical, hydraulic, electrical).
• Preferred: light construction equipment maintenance knowledge, including small engines and hydraulics.
• Preferred: working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and handheld technology (smartphone, laptop, tablet).

Pay range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Nevada, New York City, Ithaca (NY), Westchester County (NY) and Washington residents: $34 - $36.
