Mobile Service Mechanic (Rental Equipment)

About the role

The Home Depot hires Mobile Service Mechanics (also called Mobile Service Technicians) to maintain its fleet of rental construction equipment. They visit Home Depot stores and customer job sites within their market to carry out maintenance and repairs, with an emphasis on preventive maintenance. The position reports directly to the regional manager and covers Tuesday to Saturday, 9:30am to 6:00pm, with Sunday and Monday off. Candidates must live within a 20-mile radius of Rio Ranch, NM.

Key responsibilities

• Train store associates and customers on the proper operation of the equipment and large equipment procedures, following all safety requirements including Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
• Maintain MEWP certifications, keep parts and fleet inventory accurate, transfer equipment between locations and deploy new equipment to stores, including pre-delivery inspections and training.
• Perform routine store inspections and preventive maintenance, inspect equipment for rental readiness and safe operation, and make minor repairs.
• Respond to service calls, order parts, document all work on the company technology platform, and assist with equipment deliveries and pickups.

Required profile

• Age 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States.
• Meets DOT medical certification requirements; specific vision and physical requirements listed in the posting.
• Typical overnight travel under 10% of the time; intermittent periods of continuous physical exertion.
• Associate's degree or equivalent in a related field preferred; 3 years of experience preferred.
• Valid driver's license; familiarity with inventory management and handheld devices (smartphone, laptop, tablet).

Required skills

• Preferred: 1+ year of experience servicing construction equipment (preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, minor repairs).
• Preferred: light construction equipment knowledge, including small engines and hydraulics, and reading technical repair manuals.
• Preferred: Microsoft Office Suite, negotiation and complaint handling, strong written and verbal communication.
