Mobile Radar Mechanical Designer

About the role

Leidos' Defense Systems Mechanical Design & Analysis Department is seeking a Mobile Radar Mechanical Designer in Huntsville, Alabama, to design the next generation of sensors. The designer performs mechanical design of the Army Long-range Persistent Surveillance-Mobile (ALPS-M) product, working with a team of designers and engineers on a fast-paced program.

Key responsibilities

• Perform structural and enclosure design using SolidWorks CAD software
• Generate drawings in accordance with ASME Y14.100 and Y14.5
• Produce technical data packages in accordance with MIL-STD-31000
• Develop CAD designs and drawings that meet technical requirements by collaborating with the mechanical design team

Required profile

• Associate degree in Engineering Technology or Design and Drafting Technology, or equivalent
• 2+ years of applicable experience; the role covers multiple positions from junior to senior level
• Active DoD security clearance, or eligibility to obtain and maintain one
• Attention to detail, self-starter able to work independently and in teams

Required skills

• Strong SolidWorks user
• Drawing generation per ASME Y14.100 and Y14.5
• Basic understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and tolerance stack-up analysis
• Preferred: Windchill PLM experience
• Preferred: experience with FMTV vehicles and trailers, mobile tactical equipment, power generation, payload erector systems, large steel structures, aluminum sheet metal parts, electronics racks, enclosures, environmental control units, and metal part finishes and coatings

The pay range is $87,100 to $157,450, depending on experience and other factors.
