Mobile Radar Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

Leidos' Defense Systems Mechanical Design & Analysis Department is seeking a Mobile Radar Mechanical Design Engineer in Huntsville, Alabama, to design the next generation of sensors for the Army Long-range Persistent Surveillance-Mobile (ALPS-M) product. The engineer works with the design, production, testing, systems, manufacturing, structural and thermal analysis teams, turning ideas into designs and helping integrate and test the hardware.

Key responsibilities

• Perform structural and enclosure design using SolidWorks CAD software
• Generate drawings in accordance with ASME Y14.100 and Y14.5
• Produce technical data packages in accordance with MIL-STD-31000
• Develop and prove out solutions to technical problems, working with the design, systems, manufacturing, structural and thermal analysis teams
• Take ownership of assigned tasks and meet aggressive schedules

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering from an ABET-accredited university
• 4+ years of applicable experience, or 2+ years with an MS degree (multiple mid- to senior-level roles)
• Active DoD security clearance, or eligibility to obtain and maintain it
• Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills, and self-starting ability

Required skills

• Strong SolidWorks user
• Drawing generation per ASME Y14.100 and Y14.5
• GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and tolerance stack-up analysis
• Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Preferred: Windchill PLM, FMTV and mobile tactical equipment design/integration, radar or sensing technology, large steel structures, aluminum enclosures, metal finishes and coatings, and rapid prototyping

The pay range is $107,900 to $195,050, depending on experience and other factors.
