Mixtures Control Engineer Supervisor (Civil Engineer IV)

About the role

The Illinois Department of Transportation is hiring a Mixtures Control Engineer Supervisor (Civil Engineer IV) in Collinsville, IL. The position is responsible for quality control and quality assurance of Hot-Mix Asphalt (HMA), Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) and cement aggregate mixtures used on state and local highway improvement projects. It is a full-time, salaried union position with an anticipated starting salary of $6,281 per month.

Key responsibilities

• Survey, calibrate and approve hot-mix plants and concrete plants.
• Train, motivate and evaluate subordinate staff.
• Assign the appropriate mixture to projects and modify mix designs as needed.
• Coordinate inspection reports for shipments of HMA and PCC mixtures to projects under construction.
• Review laboratory and field test results for mixtures produced and placed.
• Monitor contractors on HMA and PCC projects and pavement preservation treatments.
• Complete all required reports and documents on time and accurately, in line with safety rules.

Required profile

• Licensed Professional Engineer or Licensed Structural Engineer in Illinois.
• Four years of civil engineering experience.
• Valid driver's license.
• Willingness to travel statewide with occasional overnight stays.
• Completion of IDOT Quality Management Training Program certification for PCC and HMA within 24 months of hire.
• Successful background screening.

Preferred skills

• Strong oral and written communication skills with outside entities.
• Working knowledge of materials testing and laboratory testing equipment.
• Knowledge of QC/QA for concrete and the quality management program for hot-mix asphalt.
