Civil Engineer Trainee, District 8

About the role

The State of Illinois, Department of Transportation, is hiring five Civil Engineer Trainees for District 8 in Collinsville, Illinois. This is a full-time, salaried training position within the Office of Highways and Intermodal Project Implementation, Region 5, District 8. It is a union position, so the collective bargaining agreement applies, and applications must be submitted electronically through the State's online application system.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of final plans and the implementation of work for highway construction projects of all types.
• Ensure accuracy and completeness of all assigned work.
• Provide accurate measurement, computation and documentation of engineering items.
• Keep the supervisor informed of problems encountered or deviations made.
• Make sure inspected and designed items comply with specifications.
• Provide accurate and timely layouts and plans.
• Rotate to other bureaus within the district as part of the rotational training program.
• Perform duties in line with departmental safety rules and in a way that treats all employees fairly.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited college (candidates expected to graduate within the next 12 months are also eligible).
• Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; the State does not sponsor employment visas.

What we offer

• Anticipated starting salary of $4,631 per month, with a full range of $4,631 to $6,323 per month.
