Milk Lab Technician – NICU

About the role

The Milk Lab Technician prepares safe infant feedings in accordance with Human Milk Banking of North America (HMBANA) guidelines and maintains an aseptic environment in the NICU Milk Lab. The role includes collection, storage, inventory of breast milk, and daily cleaning and stocking of the lab, reporting to the Milk Lab Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the Milk Lab and prepare breast milk and fortified formula feedings according to orders, recipes, and department policies.
• Ensure equipment is functional, supplies are stocked, and cleaning protocols are followed.
• Perform ancillary support tasks such as labeling freezer drawers, distributing daily logs, and managing patient label books.
• Communicate with patients, families, and staff, providing information and referrals to lactation consultants or dietitians as needed.
• Deliver professional customer service, uphold confidentiality, and follow patient‑centered care principles.

Required profile

• High School Diploma (minimum) and at least 1 year of healthcare or food‑service experience.
• Preferred: Human Milk Technician Certification.
