Milk Lab Technician

About the role

The Milk Lab Technician works in the NICU Milk Lab to safely prepare infant feedings, maintain an aseptic environment, and manage the collection, storage, and inventory of breast milk. The role supports daily preparation of breast milk and fortified formula feeds according to orders, recipes, and department policies.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the Milk Lab to ensure a safe environment for breast milk and formula preparation, following HMBANA guidelines.
• Prepare infant feedings daily based on physician orders and established recipes.
• Collect, store, label, and inventory breast milk, ensuring proper refrigeration and organization.
• Perform cleaning, stocking, and equipment checks to keep the lab operational.
• Assist with training new staff and communicate supply or maintenance needs to the Milk Lab Manager.
• Provide customer service to patients, families, and staff, answering questions and directing them to lactation consultants or dietitians as needed.

Required profile

• High School Diploma (minimum) with at least one year of healthcare or food‑service experience.
• Preferred certification as a Human Milk Technician.
• Ability to work in an aseptic laboratory environment and follow strict confidentiality standards.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States.
