Mid Level Software Application Developer – Homeland Security

About the role

This position supports the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Customs and Border Protection by building and maintaining a secure, cloud‑hosted tracking and reporting platform. You will work remotely or from Oklahoma City, collaborating with a federal‑focused team to deliver reliable, user‑centric features for thousands of daily active users.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test web‑based application components in a secure AWS environment.
• Assist with database design, API integrations (Microsoft 365, SharePoint) and query optimizations.
• Diagnose, debug, and resolve software bugs while ensuring compliance with Section 508 and DevSecOps standards.
• Participate in daily stand‑ups, sprint planning, and collaborative code reviews.
• Maintain documentation and contribute to continuous improvement of the platform.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years of professional software development experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a federal background suitability check.
• Detail‑oriented coder who thrives in an Agile environment.
• Eagerness to grow skills under senior architects and take ownership of core modules.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Java, C#, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Experience with modern UI frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.
• Knowledge of AWS cloud services.
• Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and SharePoint API integrations.
• Understanding of database design, SQL query optimization, and DevSecOps practices.
