Mid-Level Plant Designer (Oak Ridge)

About the role

Amentum is hiring a mid-level plant designer in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, focused on chemical process industrial mechanical and piping design. The role involves developing piping systems and equipment layouts in BIM tools, working with engineering teams on specifications, stress analysis and pipe supports, and managing model outputs. Candidates local to Oak Ridge are preferred, though those with applicable experience are encouraged to apply despite possible travel.

Key responsibilities

• Develop piping systems and equipment layout in SmartPlant 3D or similar BIM design tools
• Develop general equipment arrangement deliverables
• Assist with resolving interferences and developing resolutions
• Ensure proper integration with other BIM tools such as Intelligent Schematics
• Work with Piping Engineering on pipe specifications and stress analysis support locations
• Work with Structural Engineering for pipe support designs
• Manage model outputs for material lists and reports
• Work with Civil on underground interface connections

Required profile

• Associate degree or higher
• 10+ years using BIM tools for plant design
• Chemical process industrial mechanical/piping design experience
• Nuclear piping design experience preferred
• Local to Oak Ridge, TN preferred; U.S. citizenship required
• Valid driver's license; must pass a pre-employment drug and background check
• Ability to work in a team atmosphere and meet physical demands described in the posting

Required skills

• General understanding of building mechanical systems: HVAC, piping and plumbing
• BIM tools such as SmartPlant 3D
