About the role
The Georgia Department of Public Health is seeking a Medical Technologist to join its Public Health Central Laboratory, Newborn Screening Unit in Decatur. Under general supervision, you will perform high‑complexity laboratory tests that support medical diagnosis and treatment for newborns across the state.
Key responsibilities
- Analyze dried blood spot specimens for genetic and metabolic conditions such as Cystic Fibrosis, SCID, and Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
- Perform testing using fluorescent immunoassays, tandem mass spectrometry (MSMS), and high‑pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC).
- Interpret, record, and report results to designated personnel, ensuring accuracy and compliance with CLIA standards.
- Repeat tests as needed to confirm consistency and reliability of data.
Required profile
- Ability to conduct high‑complexity CLIA‑regulated laboratory procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate data reporting.
- Capacity to work under general supervision in a fast‑paced public health environment.
