Medical Technologist – Lead

About the role

The University of Miami’s UHealth Laboratories Department is seeking a Medical Technologist – Lead to perform complex microbiological, molecular biological and immunological testing on patient specimens. This senior‑level position provides critical data for disease diagnosis and treatment while guiding a team of technologists.

Key responsibilities

• Verify specimen identification, prepare samples, and handle all specimens safely.
• Perform and interpret complex microbiology, molecular biology, and immunology assays.
• Research and compile patient data, forwarding results to pathologists for sign‑out.
• Calibrate equipment, manage inventory, and order supplies.
• Identify test inconsistencies, take corrective actions, and support colleagues in problem resolution.
• Conduct quality‑control tests and maintain accurate records.
• Lead laboratory operations, act as a resource, and mentor staff.
• Orient and train new employees on laboratory techniques and procedures.
• Adhere to university policies, safeguard assets, and uphold core values.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field.
• Florida Medical Technologist License (required).
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant laboratory experience.
• Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as needed.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information.
