About the role
The University of Miami Health Laboratories is seeking an experienced Medical Technologist to lead the Immunology and Histocompatibility section. The role combines advanced testing, quality assurance, and mentorship responsibilities in a fast‑paced clinical environment.
Key responsibilities
- Verify specimen identification, prepare samples, and conduct complex microbiological, molecular biological, and immunological tests.
- Analyze and interpret results, flag abnormal findings, and forward data to pathologists for sign‑out.
- Calibrate and maintain laboratory instruments, manage inventory, and order supplies.
- Identify test inconsistencies, implement corrective actions, and support colleagues in problem resolution.
- Perform and document quality‑control procedures according to established protocols.
- Assume lead duties, act as a resource for staff, and provide orientation and training on laboratory techniques.
- Adhere to university policies, safeguard assets, and work flexible hours including evenings, nights, and weekends as needed.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field.
- Current Florida Medical Technologist license.
- Minimum five years of experience performing advanced laboratory testing.
- Strong attention to detail, ability to prioritize under pressure, and discretion with confidential information.
- Commitment to university core values and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
