Medical Technologist III – Blood Bank

About the role

The University of Miami’s UHealth Laboratories Blood Bank Operations is seeking a full‑time Medical Technologist III to perform complex microbiological, molecular and immunological testing on patient specimens. The role supports accurate diagnosis and treatment decisions while ensuring high‑quality laboratory operations.

Key responsibilities

• Verify specimen identification, prepare samples and handle them safely.
• Perform and interpret complex microbiological, molecular and immunological assays.
• Conduct routine pre‑transfusion testing, antibody identification and prepare blood components such as thawed plasma and cryoprecipitate.
• Calibrate and maintain laboratory instruments, order supplies and manage inventory.
• Administer quality‑control tests, record data and take corrective actions for inconsistencies.
• Provide technical guidance, train staff and assume lead duties as needed.
• Collaborate with pathologists by compiling patient data and test results for sign‑out.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field.
• Current Florida State Medical Technologist License in Immunohematology.
• Minimum three years of experience in a clinical laboratory, preferably blood bank.
• Ability to work evenings, nights and weekends as required.
• Strong attention to detail, confidentiality and adherence to university policies.
