Medical Technologist I – Microbiology

About the role

The UHealth Laboratories Department at the University of Miami is seeking a Medical Technologist I specialized in microbiology. The role involves performing routine and complex laboratory tests on blood, urine, and other bodily fluids, and collaborating with physicians and lab management to ensure accurate patient data.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare cultures of tissue samples and examine slides using microscopy.
• Perform blood cross‑matching for transfusions and chemically analyze urine for toxic components.
• Collect and evaluate blood samples for morphology and review laboratory reports for accuracy.
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment, including point‑of‑care devices.
• Deliver test results to physicians, researchers, and patients, and address unusual findings.
• Support Point of Care activities, POCT nursing training, and quality‑control procedures across multiple units.

Required profile

• Associate’s degree in a relevant scientific field.
• Current Florida Medical Technologist license.
• Minimum of 1 year of relevant laboratory experience preferred.
• Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as needed.
