Medical Technologist I – Flow Cytometry

About the role

The University of Miami UHealth Laboratories is seeking a Medical Technologist I specialized in flow cytometry. This entry‑level position supports routine and high‑complexity testing on blood and bodily fluids, collaborating closely with physicians and laboratory management.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare tissue cultures and process patient specimens for flow cytometry.
• Perform high‑complexity flow cytometry assays such as immunophenotyping for leukemia/lymphoma, stem cell enumeration (CD34), lymphocyte subset analysis, and minimal residual disease (MRD) testing.
• Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot flow cytometers (e.g., Navios EX, Aquios).
• Crossmatch blood for transfusions, analyze urine chemically, and examine slides of bodily fluids.
• Evaluate laboratory reports for accuracy, deliver results to clinicians, and address unusual findings.
• Ensure data accuracy through program monitoring and adherence to university policies.

Required profile

• Associate’s degree in a relevant scientific field.
• Florida Medical Technologist License (required).
• No prior experience required; ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as needed.
• Strong attention to detail, ability to prioritize under pressure, and commitment to confidentiality.
