Medical Technologist (Cytogenetics) – Per Diem

About the role

The University of Miami Pathology Department seeks a Per‑diem Medical Technologist specialized in Cytogenetics. The role supports diagnostic testing, quality assurance, and instrument maintenance while collaborating with clinical investigators.

Key responsibilities

• Verify specimen identification, prepare samples, and handle them safely.
• Perform microbiological, molecular biological, and immunological tests and interpret abnormal results.
• Research and compile patient data, forwarding results to pathologists for sign‑out.
• Calibrate laboratory equipment, order supplies, and manage inventory.
• Identify test inconsistencies, take corrective actions, and assist coworkers in problem resolution.
• Conduct quality‑control tests and maintain accurate records.
• Orient and train new employees on laboratory techniques and operations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in biological, chemical or medical sciences.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant laboratory experience.
• Valid State of Florida Medical Technologist license.
• Licensure as a Clinical Cytogenetics Technologist and/or Molecular Technologist preferred.
