About the role

The UHealth Laboratories Department at the University of Miami is seeking a Medical Technologist 2 to perform microbiological, molecular biological, and immunological testing on patient specimens. This full‑time position supports accurate diagnosis and treatment while ensuring laboratory quality and equipment reliability.

Key responsibilities

• Verify specimen identification against physician orders, prepare and handle specimens safely.
• Perform and interpret microbiological, molecular and immunological assays, flagging abnormal results.
• Compile patient data and forward results to pathologists for sign‑out.
• Calibrate laboratory instruments, order supplies, and maintain inventory of forms and materials.
• Identify test inconsistencies, take corrective actions, and assist coworkers in problem resolution.
• Conduct quality‑control tests and record data according to procedures.
• Help orient and train new laboratory staff on techniques and operations.
• Follow university and departmental policies, safeguarding assets.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field.
• Minimum 2 years of experience performing clinical laboratory tests.
• Valid State of Florida Medical Technologist license.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
