Medical Technologist 2 – Full‑time Laboratory Position

About the role

The University of Miami/UHealth Laboratories Department seeks a full‑time Medical Technologist 2 to perform microbiological, molecular and immunological testing on patient specimens. The incumbent will support diagnosis and treatment decisions while ensuring quality and instrument reliability.

Key responsibilities

• Verify specimen identification against physician orders, prepare and handle specimens safely.
• Perform and interpret microbiological, molecular (PCR, NGS) and immunological assays, including HLA typing and flow cytometry.
• Calibrate, maintain and troubleshoot laboratory instruments; order supplies and manage inventory.
• Conduct quality‑control testing, record data, and report critical values according to policy.
• Assist pathologists by preparing patient data and referring results for sign‑out.
• Orient and train new staff on laboratory techniques and safety procedures.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field.
• Current Florida Medical Technologist license (required).
• Minimum two years of clinical laboratory experience.
• Ability to work evenings, nights, weekends and on‑call rotations.

Required skills

• Proficiency with PCR platforms (Ingenious/Elitech, Roche/Cobas Ampliprep, Real‑Time PCR 7500).
• Experience in HLA typing (QuantStudio, Luminex) and Next‑Generation Sequencing.
• Flow cytometry for immunophenotyping and cross‑match assays.
• ELISA assay development and execution for infectious disease antibodies.
• Instrument calibration, maintenance and quality‑control procedures.
• Use of laboratory information systems for result reporting.
