Medical Technologist 2 – Full‑time

About the role

The UHealth Laboratories Blood Bank Department at the University of Miami is seeking a full‑time Medical Technologist 2. In this role you will perform microbiological, molecular and immunological testing on patient specimens to support diagnosis and treatment, while ensuring quality and instrument reliability.

Key responsibilities

• Verify specimen identification, prepare samples, and handle all specimens safely.
• Perform microbiological, molecular, immunological and pre‑transfusion testing, including antibody identification.
• Analyze results, interpret abnormal findings, and forward data to pathologists for sign‑out.
• Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment, order supplies, and manage inventory.
• Conduct quality‑control tests, record data, and address test inconsistencies.
• Prepare blood components such as thawed fresh frozen plasma and cryoprecipitate.
• Assist in training and orienting new laboratory staff.
• Adhere to university policies, safeguard assets, and work evenings, nights, or weekends as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field.
• Certification in the relevant specialty or field.
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant laboratory experience.
• Ability to work accurately under pressure, handle confidential information, and collaborate effectively.
