Medical Technologist 2 – Clinical Laboratory

About the role

The University of Miami seeks a Medical Technologist 2 to perform microbiological, molecular biological, and immunological testing on patient specimens. The incumbent will ensure accurate results, support quality assurance, and maintain laboratory instruments.

Key responsibilities

• Verify specimen identification and prepare samples safely for analysis.
• Conduct microbiology, molecular biology, and immunology tests and interpret abnormal results.
• Provide test data to pathologists for evaluation and sign‑out.
• Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment, order supplies, and manage inventory.
• Perform quality‑control tests, record data, and address test inconsistencies.
• Assist in training new staff on laboratory techniques and procedures.
• Adhere to university policies, safety regulations, and patient confidentiality standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field.
• Current Florida Medical Technologist license.
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant laboratory experience.
• Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as needed.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information.
