About the role

The Pathology Department at the University of Miami is seeking a Medical Technologist 1 to perform routine and complex laboratory tests on blood, urine, and other bodily fluids. The role supports physicians and laboratory management by delivering accurate test results and ensuring data integrity.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare cultures of tissue samples and examine slides using microscopy.
• Perform crossmatching for blood transfusions and pre‑transfusion testing.
• Analyze urine chemically and assess blood morphology.
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment.
• Generate and deliver test results to physicians, researchers, and patients.
• Identify unusual results, troubleshoot, and implement corrective actions.
• Conduct antibody identification procedures and prepare blood components such as thawed fresh frozen plasma and cryoprecipitate.
• Perform quality‑control testing and ensure compliance with university policies.

Required profile

• Associate’s degree in a relevant laboratory science field.
• Current Florida Medical Technologist license.
• No prior experience required; entry‑level candidates are welcome.
• Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as needed.
