Medical Technician – UHealth Labs Transition

About the role

The University of Miami’s UHealth Laboratories is seeking a Medical Technician to support the transition of its lab services. The role involves preparing and analyzing specimens, administering medications, and maintaining accurate medical records in a fast‑paced clinical environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare blood, urine, and tissue specimens for analysis using microscopes and automatic analyzers.
• Enter test results into the laboratory database and ensure data integrity.
• Set up, adjust, clean, and maintain medical laboratory equipment.
• Observe aseptic techniques when collecting samples and performing blood transfusion tests.
• Conduct microbiology work, including culturing and identifying microorganisms.
• Collaborate with pathologists to interpret abnormal findings.
• Administer prescribed medications, verify patient identity, and document dosage and timing.
• Take vital signs and monitor patient responses to medication.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent with relevant experience.
• Minimum of 1 year of laboratory or medical technician experience.
• Current Florida Medical Technician license.
• Strong learning agility and ability to follow evolving protocols.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
