Medical Physics Resident (PGY2) – Radiation Oncology

About the role

The University of Miami Medical Center offers a CAMPEP‑accredited two‑year Clinical Medical Physics Residency in the Radiation Oncology Department. The PGY2 resident will rotate through all clinical areas, gaining hands‑on experience to prepare for the ABR certification exam in Radiological Therapeutic Physics.

Key responsibilities

• Complete eight three‑month clinical rotations covering treatment simulation, 3D planning, dosimetry, IMRT, VMAT, SRS, SBRT, brachytherapy, and QA.
• Participate in linear accelerator and treatment planning system commissioning.
• Perform imaging tasks using CT, 4DCT, MRI, PET, and US, including image fusion and algorithm evaluation.
• Attend quarterly educational sessions and pass oral examinations at the end of each year.
• Work under supervision of senior physicists; no direct patient care responsibilities.

Required profile

• Eligibility for a CAMPEP‑accredited medical physics residency.
• Commitment to complete a two‑year training program and pursue ABR certification.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary clinical environment.

Required skills

• 3D treatment planning and dosimetry.
• Advanced planning techniques: IMRT, VMAT, SRS, SBRT.
• Linear accelerator and treatment planning system commissioning.
• Imaging modalities: CT, 4DCT, MRI, PET, US, and image fusion.
• Quality assurance for linear accelerators and patient‑specific plans.
• Radiation protection, shielding, and safety procedures.
