Medical Editor

About the role

A Medical Editor is sought to edit, copyedit and fact-check a wide range of digital and print pharmaceutical advertising materials, internal and external presentations and corporate communications. The editor owns assigned brands, promotes editorial consistency and ensures medical, legal and regulatory compliance throughout the project lifecycle, and reports to the Senior Medical Editor. The role is open to remote candidates in the United States, with a preference for those in the Eastern time zone.

Key responsibilities

• Edit copy and ensure regulatory compliance for branded and unbranded marketing and promotional materials aimed at healthcare professionals and patients, across digital and print channels
• Fact-check and proofread existing copy so it can be adapted for new channels and audiences
• Provide medical, regulatory and legal expertise to keep content consistent and accurate under FDA guidelines, internal style guidelines and brand standards
• Copyedit promotional materials for grammar, punctuation, spelling, style, flow and consistency
• Validate references so they are current and meet reference criteria
• Collaborate with project managers, account managers, designers, copywriters and other freelance editors as needed
• Manage own brand alignment and help other editors, while managing several projects at once in a fast-paced environment

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in communications, English, journalism or life sciences
• At least 3 years of experience editing pharmaceutical promotional materials within an agency environment
• Proactive, able to work independently, and able to search literature and read scientific journal articles

Required skills

• Knowledge of current AMA style
• Experience with medical, regulatory and legal reviews and familiarity with FDA requirements for drug promotion preferred
• Experience anchoring/linking in Veeva is a plus
• Experience across therapeutic areas and product launches is a plus
