Medical Assistant - Valley Medical Arts Clinic

About the role

The ASAS Health team is looking for a Medical Assistant for its Valley Medical Arts Clinic in McAllen. The role focuses on quality of care and customer service, working closely with clinical staff to support direct patient services. It acts as a point of contact with internal and external departments to promote patient comfort and trust.

Key responsibilities

• Review and update patient records before face-to-face visits and virtual visits (telehealth), including recent test results, lab results and correspondence.
• Clean exam rooms between patients and keep them stocked with supplies, following infection control standards.
• Greet patients, direct them to the right room, and take weight, height, temperature and blood pressure, documenting the history in the medical chart.
• Provide initial medical screening and assist physicians or mid-level providers during examinations.
• Restock rooms, shelves and trays, check supplies and keep areas tidy.

Required profile

• High school graduate (or GED) required.
• Current, valid Medical Assistant certification preferred; new hires without it must obtain it or recertify within 90 days, with reimbursement of up to $250 for exam and training materials.
• Current, valid CPR certification.
• Bilingual English/Spanish and other languages strongly preferred; valid Texas driver's license, insurance and willingness to travel as required preferred.

Required skills

• Excellent communication and documentation skills, with diplomacy and tact.
• Beginner to intermediate computer and phone skills.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-stress environment and to cross-train within the department.
• Working knowledge of Universal Precautions and strict adherence to HIPAA confidentiality.
