Medical Assistant / Phlebotomist (In Office)

About the role

A family practice in Conyers is looking for a Medical Assistant who also performs phlebotomy duties. The role is full-time (36-40 hours per week) and takes place on site, assisting the physician, nurse practitioner and other staff with administrative and clinical tasks while serving patients.

Key responsibilities

• Greet patients, verify their medical histories and explain treatment procedures
• Maintain a patient load of 25-30 patients a day and escort them to exam rooms
• Measure vital signs (weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature) and document them in the patient chart
• Prepare treatment rooms, collect and prepare laboratory specimens, draw blood, perform and process basic lab tests, set up EKG machines and administer injections and medications
• Clean and disinfect rooms, keep instruments maintained and dispose of contaminated supplies safely
• Draw blood, remove sutures and change dressings
• Record patient history, vital statistics and test results electronically, and complete diagnostic and procedure coding
• Help patients sign in, upload insurance data and identification, schedule appointments, arrange hospital admissions and laboratory services, and scan and fax documents
• Answer phones and emails, handle voicemails and faxes in Athena Health, and ensure patients are enrolled in Chronic Care Management programs

Required profile

• Strong customer service skills
• Experience with the Athena EMR system
• Ability to follow safety standards, facility policies and federal, state and local regulations
• Willingness to take ownership of new requests and keep improving through training and professional reading
