Medical Assistant

About the role

Laredo Premier Healthcare is looking for a Medical Assistant to join its ASAS Health team. The role focuses on quality of care and customer service, working closely with clinical staff to support direct patient services. It acts as a point of contact with internal and external departments to promote patient comfort and trust.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare for patient visits by reviewing and updating patient records before face-to-face or virtual (telehealth) visits, including recent test and lab results and correspondence.
• Maintain exam rooms according to protocol: clean between patients and keep supplies stocked.
• Greet patients, direct them to the right room, and take weight, height, temperature and blood pressure, documenting the history in the medical chart.
• Provide initial medical screening and assist physicians or mid-level providers during examinations.
• Restock rooms, shelves and trays, check supplies and keep areas clean and orderly.

Required profile

• High school graduate (or GED) required.
• Bilingual English/Spanish and other languages strongly preferred.
• Valid Texas driver's license preferred, along with insurance and the ability to travel as required.
• Cultural sensitivity and ability to work with ethnically diverse populations.

Required skills

• Excellent communication skills for taking medical histories and documenting patient information.
• Working knowledge of Universal Precautions.
• Understanding of HIPAA confidentiality standards.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-stress environment and willingness to cross-train.
• Current, valid Medical Assistant certification preferred; new hires without it must obtain it within 90 days.

What we offer

• Reimbursement of up to $250 for certification or recertification within 90 days of hire ($150 for the exam, $100 for approved training materials).
