Mechatronics & Systems Integration Intern – R&D

About the role

Join Johnson & Johnson's Surgery team to help develop next‑generation surgical robotics that improve patient outcomes worldwide. This internship offers hands‑on experience in mechatronics, systems integration, and robotics within a collaborative R&D environment.

Key responsibilities

• Support system and subsystem level development, integration, and testing of surgical robotic platforms.
• Identify, root‑cause, and resolve issues across mechanical, electrical, software, and control domains.
• Characterize prototypes, analyze test results, and provide insights for design de‑risking.
• Develop test methods, fixtures, and calibration procedures for integration activities.

Required profile

• Junior or senior pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Robotics, Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and eligibility to work in the United States.
• Available full‑time for the June‑August 2027 internship period and committed to return to academic program afterward.

Required skills

• Basic understanding of sensors and motors.
• Hands‑on experience building or troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, or software systems.
• Programming in C++ and Python.
• Microcontroller coding (e.g., Arduino) and reading electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
