Mechanical Engineering Intern – Spring 2027

About the role

Rendezvous Robotics is developing electromagnetic self‑assembling tiles for modular spacecraft. The Mechanical Engineering Intern will support the design, analysis, and hands‑on assembly of docking interfaces, thermal management systems, and structural components for flight hardware during the Spring 2027 term.

Key responsibilities

• Design and iterate structural components and docking interface hardware.
• Develop thermal management solutions for onboard electronics and battery packs.
• Support mechanical integration of electronics, power systems, and sensors within tight envelopes.
• Create and refine harness and connector layouts between internal subsystems.
• Perform structural and thermal analysis to validate designs before build.

Required profile

• Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
• Proficiency with CAD tools such as Onshape, NX, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar.
• Understanding of basic structural and thermal analysis principles.
• Eligibility to meet ITAR requirements (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee).

Required skills

• CAD modeling (Onshape, NX, SolidWorks, Fusion 360).
• Structural analysis.
• Thermal analysis.
• Familiarity with FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, FEMAP, NX Simcenter3D) – preferred.
• Experience with ruggedized connectors and cable harness design – preferred.
