Mechanical Engineer – Deployable Space Structures

About the role

Beyond Reach Labs is pioneering the next generation of large deployable mechanisms for space infrastructure. As a Mechanical Engineer you will design, analyze, and validate mechanical systems and actuators that enable structures such as solar arrays and radiators to be launched compactly and deployed reliably in orbit.

Key responsibilities

• Identify requirements, conduct trade studies, and apply first‑principles engineering to optimize satellite mechanisms.
• Create detailed CAD models, select materials and lubricants, define assembly processes, and develop test methods.
• Perform classical and FEA analyses for static, dynamic, thermal, and fatigue loads to ensure margins and reliability.
• Develop and execute test and qualification plans, produce design packages, drawings, analysis reports, BOMs, and assembly documentation.
• Facilitate cost‑trade studies across parallel configurations and collaborate with cross‑functional teams and customers for spacecraft integration.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
• 1+ years of hands‑on experience with satellite or launch‑vehicle mechanisms.
• Experience with stepper or BLDC motors, springs, and HDRMs.
• U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, or export‑control eligibility.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD software (Fusion 360) and analysis tools (Ansys).
• Mechanical design and first‑principles analysis.
• FEA for static, dynamic, thermal, and fatigue loading.
• Materials selection for space applications.
• Creation of detailed drawings, BOMs, and assembly documentation.
