Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

REGENT is scaling its innovative Seaglider transportation platform from prototype to full‑rate production. As a Mechanical Design Engineer you will own the design, analysis, prototyping and testing of mechanical systems across multiple vehicle platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Design mechanical hardware—including structures, mechanisms, actuation, thermal, fluid and electromechanical systems—from concept through production‑intent CAD and documentation.
• Justify designs with hand calculations and analyses such as FEA, kinematic, thermal or fluid studies, including fastener sizing and tolerance stack‑ups.
• Build and test prototypes in the lab, develop test rigs, benches and fixtures, and iterate quickly based on real data.
• Improve existing designs to enhance reliability, weight and manufacturability for production.
• Collaborate with electrical, software, controls and program‑management teams to resolve integration challenges and keep projects on schedule.
• Serve as the responsible engineer for assigned design investigations, managing multiple concepts in parallel.

Required profile

• Demonstrated mechanical design experience across structures, mechanisms, actuation, thermal, fluid or electromechanical systems.
• Strong knowledge of machine elements (bearings, hinges, seals, etc.) and power transmission components (motors, gearboxes, belts, hydraulics).
• Practical manufacturing understanding of machining, sheet metal, composites, welding, casting and additive processes.
• Ability to perform hand calculations and use FEA tools to justify design decisions.

Required skills

• Advanced CAD proficiency (NX preferred).
• Finite element analysis (FEMAP or ANSYS) experience.
• Fastener sizing, tolerance analysis, and structural analysis.
• Knowledge of material selection, fatigue, corrosion, wear and buckling failure modes.
