Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a full‑time Mechanical Design Engineer to join a large industrial equipment company located north of Buffalo, NY. The role involves developing complete engineering definitions for products, collaborating with sales, and ensuring designs meet customer requirements while being efficient and reliable.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain awareness of project schedules, routing, specifications, and raise potential issues to the supervisor.
• Read and interpret P&IDs, identify documentation gaps, and communicate them.
• Select and source standard mechanical components and develop detailed vendor specifications.
• Create comprehensive 3D models and 2D fabrication drawings, applying GD&T, surface finish, and fit requirements.
• Design for manufacturability, produce shop‑ready drawings and bills of material.
• Apply relevant codes and standards such as ASME Piping and Pressure Vessel code.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing priorities to stay on schedule.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution.
• At least two years of experience in a mechanical design role, preferably with complex equipment.
• Previous exposure to manufacturing floor and design processes.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor or comparable 3D modeling software.
• Strong 3D modeling and 2D drafting abilities.
• Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Familiarity with ASME Piping and Pressure Vessel code.
