Mechanical Design Engineer – Electric Vehicles

About the role

The Mechanical Design Engineer – EV will join Blue Bird’s EV Design Engineering team to create and refine mechanical solutions for next‑generation electric school buses. Reporting to the Manager, EV Design Engineering, you will work with senior engineers and designers to develop detailed CAD models, support prototype builds, and contribute to design reviews.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with senior engineers and designers to produce and refine detailed design models and drawings.
• Conduct research and gather data to support design decisions and project development.
• Create design documentation, drawings, and test reports for mechanical system and component specifications.
• Interpret and apply FMVSS, state, and customer requirements.
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and troubleshooting support.
• Participate in design reviews, offering constructive feedback.
• Stay current with industry trends, materials, and manufacturing processes.
• Work closely with cross‑functional teams to ensure design feasibility and manufacturability.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent.

• Knowledge of FMVSS, state regulations, and customer requirements.
• Understanding of EV power‑train integration and mechanical system design.
