Meat Clerk

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Meat Clerk for its Hampton Dollar Fresh Market. The role sits in the Meat Department and provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service while wrapping, trimming, stocking cases and receiving merchandise. It reports to the District Store Director, Store Manager and various department managers.

Key responsibilities

• Provide friendly customer service, greet customers by name where possible, escort them to products, load or unload heavy items and take customer orders by phone
• Wrap, weigh and label product, trim steaks, roasts and chops, and prepare and organize seafood for display
• Check food freshness, stock cases, rotate product and replenish coolers
• Tray, slice, tenderize and grind product, and report out-of-stock items
• Follow sanitation procedures, keep the work area clean, and adhere to hygiene and dress guidelines
• Secondary duties include preparing some department signs, ordering replenishment merchandise and helping in other store areas

Required profile

• High school or equivalent education and food safety training
• Six months or less of similar or related work
• Ability to follow written or verbal instructions, do simple addition and subtraction, and count and record figures
• Physical ability to lift up to 85 pounds occasionally, 40 pounds frequently and 10 pounds constantly, plus climbing, stooping, kneeling and repetitive motion
• Visual acuity from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception and color vision

Working conditions include a cool, damp environment, frequent noise from saws, exposure to cleaning solvents and the possibility of electrical shock. Employment is contingent on a pre-employment drug screen.
