Materials & Process Engineer – Polymers

About the role

Divergent is seeking a Materials & Process Engineer to accelerate the adoption and qualification of new manufacturing processes for polymers, adhesives, and coatings. You will work across office, laboratory, and industrial environments to ensure robust material performance for aerospace and defense applications.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute qualification plans for adhesives, coatings, and corrosion‑protection solutions.
• Identify scalable approaches to environmental protection of additive‑manufactured hardware.
• Write and maintain engineering specifications for materials, processes, and testing.
• Support material‑related quality monitoring tools and conduct root‑cause investigations.
• Develop and qualify new manufacturing processes for rapid onboarding.
• Participate in integrated product teams to deliver new products.
• Collaborate with component designers to meet customer material requirements and perform component‑specific testing.

Required profile

• Ability to lawfully access information subject to US export controls.
• Bachelor’s degree in materials science, engineering, or a related field.
• 4+ years experience in material qualification and technical specification writing.
• 2+ years experience working with hardware in a manufacturing environment.
• Background in adhesives, coatings, paint, or corrosion protection.
