Material Handler

About the role

Amerex, a global leader in fire suppression products, is hiring a full-time Material Handler in Trussville. The role covers reconciling incoming and outgoing materials, moving finished goods and materials around the plant, loading and unloading trucks and documenting each transaction according to established procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Move freight, stock or other materials to and from storage, production areas, loading docks, delivery vehicles, ships or containers, by hand or with trucks, tractors or other equipment.
• Sort cargo before loading and unloading, attach identifying tags to containers and mark them with identifying information.
• Read work orders or receive oral instructions, record the number of units handled or moved on daily production sheets or work tickets, and review work orders or schedules.
• Maintain equipment storage areas so inventory is protected, pack and re-pack damaged containers, and maintain material moving equipment in good working condition.
• Carry tools and supplies from storage or trucks and return them after use, and operate moving or lifting equipment.
• Monitor cargo area conditions, clean facilities or work areas, and perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, good written and verbal communication, attention to detail, accuracy and self-direction.
• Ability to pass the Forklift Certification process.
• Physical ability to lift and move up to 10 pounds regularly, up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally, and to work under stress with proper body mechanics.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word and Excel.
• Data entry software and handheld computer device software.
• Inventory tracking software experience desired.
