About the role

As a Manufacturing Equipment Engineer on Tesla’s General Assembly Semi team, you will sustain, optimise and improve advanced automated manufacturing equipment. You will work to reduce downtime, maximise efficiency and enhance safety while becoming the subject‑matter expert for critical production tooling.

Key responsibilities

  • Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and travel internationally to validate new production tooling.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot equipment to ensure continuous production and minimise downtime.
  • Design, validate and schedule jigs, fixtures, tooling and maintenance plans with a focus on safety and reliability.
  • Apply first‑principles engineering to lead upgrades and modifications that improve equipment performance and process capability.
  • Develop deep expertise on assigned automation systems to support training and troubleshooting.
  • Perform ROI analysis and present engineering justification for capital expenditures.

Required profile

  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in a high‑volume manufacturing environment.
  • Strong 2D and 3D CAD design skills.
  • Hands‑on knowledge of robotics (e.g., Fanuc), vision systems (Keyence, Cognex) and dispense/conveyance systems.
  • Familiarity with AGVs, torque tools, fluid‑fill systems and end‑of‑line testing is a plus.
  • Proven problem‑solving ability using structured methods such as DMAIC, 8D or 5 Whys.

Required skills

  • Mechanical, electrical or mechatronics engineering fundamentals.
  • High‑volume manufacturing processes.
  • 2D/3D CAD (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.).
  • Robotics programming and integration (Fanuc).
  • Vision system integration (Keyence, Cognex).
  • Dispense, conveyance and AGV systems.
  • Design of jigs, fixtures and tooling with DFM and GD&T.
  • Electrical systems: 3‑phase 480/208 VAC, single‑phase 208/120 VAC, 24 VDC.
  • ROI analysis and capital‑expenditure justification.
  • Structured problem‑solving methods (DMAIC, 8D, 5 Whys).
