Manufacturing Engineering Intern (Summer 2027)

About the role

Impulse Space is hiring a Manufacturing Engineering Intern for Summer 2027, a 12-week program from May/June through August/September 2027. You will work across all aspects of manufacturing and assembling spacecraft components, from development test articles to high-volume production, alongside a fast-paced, agile team. The internship is paid at $30 per hour.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Manufacturing Engineering teams (Machine Shop, Structures Engineering and Propulsion Engineering) in developing and improving manufacturing processes for space-grade components and vehicles.
• Work with design and development teams to produce reliable, cost-efficient hardware.
• Identify optimal fabrication processes by evaluating techniques such as additive, subtractive, forming, welding and brazing.
• Create efficient and reliable assembly and inspection processes.
• Resolve technical issues with innovative solutions.

Required profile

• Completion or progress toward a degree in engineering or science.
• Ability to take project ownership and work well in a small team.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience with basic fabrication tools and processes (electric and pneumatic power tools, tube bending, machining, welding, etc.).
• Willingness and ability to work on-site in Redondo Beach, CA for the duration of the internship; overtime may be required and is eligible for overtime pay.
• U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, protected individual status or eligibility for the required authorizations under ITAR.

Preferred skills and experience

• Hands-on experience with product or process improvements.
• Experience with Design for Manufacturability and complex assemblies.
• Familiarity with CAD software and ability to learn new tools.
• Experience taking a hardware project through design, build and test.
