Manufacturing Engineer – Sustainable Sawmill Operations

About the role
The Lumber Manufactory is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to lead hands‑on development and continuous improvement of next‑generation sawmills. You will work directly on the factory floor, translating engineering intent into safe, repeatable, high‑performing operations.
Key responsibilities
- Lead process‑improvement initiatives to boost safety, quality, throughput, delivery, and cost efficiency.
- Develop and refine manufacturing processes that ensure consistent, high‑yield production with low variability.
- Stabilize day‑to‑day operations through troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, line balancing, takt‑time optimization, and bottleneck elimination.
- Run structured continuous‑improvement programs such as 5S, Kaizen events, waste reduction, and cycle‑time reduction.
- Design and implement equipment, tooling, and automation solutions to increase productivity and repeatability.
- Support new product introductions, pilot builds, and scale‑up activities, including DFM improvements and capacity planning.
- Optimize factory layout and material flow across log yards, kilns, production lines, and shipping areas.
- Build and maintain performance metrics to prioritize improvement work and enable data‑driven decisions.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- 2+ years of hands‑on experience in a manufacturing environment with direct ownership of engineering or process‑improvement projects.
- Proven ability to diagnose and solve mechanical or process problems on the production floor.
- Experience in heavy‑industrial, automotive, or similarly demanding manufacturing settings.
