Manufacturing Engineer – Barrel Machining (Contract)

About the role

This contract position supports day‑to‑day production of barrel machining operations in Kalamazoo, MI. The engineer will work hands‑on with equipment, programming, tooling and documentation to drive efficiency, capacity and reliability.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and optimise Mazatrol CNC programs for barrel machining.
• Update tooling prints and manufacturing drawings to reflect current production requirements.
• Maintain and revise Solumina process instructions, routings and related documentation.
• Identify and implement changeover reduction opportunities to improve uptime.
• Establish and support a preventive maintenance program for equipment, tooling and critical process elements.
• Partner with production, quality and maintenance teams to resolve process issues.
• Standardise manufacturing methods to improve repeatability and reduce variation.
• Support engineering and process changes while keeping documentation accurate and shop‑floor ready.

Required profile

• Experience operating mill, lathe and mill‑turn machining equipment.
• Working knowledge of Mazatrol CNC programming.
• Experience updating tooling drawings, prints and shop documentation.
• Familiarity with Enovia PLM and Solumina (or similar) MES systems.
• Understanding of setup reduction and lean manufacturing principles.
• Ability to work independently in a high‑mix, production‑support environment.
• Strong communication and cross‑functional coordination skills.
