Manager, Mission Software

About the role

Lead and grow the software team responsible for the mission‑critical systems of the Seaglider vehicle, covering crew interfaces, autonomy applications, test and ground systems, and the vehicle software platform.

Key responsibilities

• Define team structure, hire experts across four software domains, and set standards and ownership boundaries.
• Stay hands‑on by reviewing and contributing code in C++ and Python where needed.
• Set direction across the domains, deciding reuse, vehicle‑specific divergence, and quarterly focus.
• Match development rigor to safety criticality, delivering certification‑grade evidence for crew‑facing software while enabling fast iteration for prototypes.
• Support test operations, turning test days into engineering answers within 24 hours.
• Integrate software work with controls, embedded, simulation, autonomy, and systems engineering teams.

Required profile

• Proven leadership building software for vehicles, operational systems, or test programs, with experience managing engineers.
• Accountability for delivery, scoping work into milestones and handling people issues directly.
• Track record of hiring, defining roles, and retaining top engineers.
• Deep expertise in at least one of the four software areas and sufficient fluency across the others.
• Hands‑on strength in C++ design and Python tooling.
• Experience delivering software under aerospace, automotive, or comparable regulated contexts (e.g., DO‑178C, DAL‑classified).
