Manager, Medical Technologists

About the role

The University of Miami Pathology Department seeks a Manager of Medical Technologists to lead clinical laboratory operations, ensure quality assurance, and maintain instrumentation. This role oversees daily laboratory activities, drives process improvements, and collaborates with internal and external partners to deliver high‑quality patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Lead teams of medical technologists performing routine tests and procedures.
• Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, initiating service requests as needed.
• Plan, prioritize, and direct work activities to ensure efficient operations.
• Investigate and resolve patient testing issues.
• Participate in recruitment, interviewing, and performance management.
• Design and implement new laboratory procedures and instrumentation.
• Monitor quality control, proficiency testing, and corrective actions.
• Coordinate continuing education and training programs.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and university policies.
• Develop strategic goals, standard operating procedures, and competency assessment tools.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing laboratory staff and operations.
• Strong knowledge of clinical laboratory regulations and quality standards.
• Ability to analyze equipment performance and resolve technical issues.
• Effective communication skills for policy dissemination and interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Experience in staff development, performance evaluation, and disciplinary processes.
