Manager, Healthcare Risk Management

About the role

The University of Miami Health System is seeking a full‑time Manager of Healthcare Risk Management to lead risk‑reduction initiatives on the UHealth campus. The role focuses on investigating patient safety events, maintaining reporting systems, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate and analyze patient injury events to identify root causes and trends.
• Maintain and coordinate the Event Reporting System (ERS), reviewing reports and recommending corrective actions.
• Conduct preventive risk assessments, provide in‑service education, and offer on‑call emergency assistance to clinical staff.
• Develop and update policies to comply with JCAHO, HIPAA, federal and state regulations.
• Collaborate with senior leadership, legal counsel, insurance representatives, and medical staff on risk‑management issues.
• Lead departmental risk‑management meetings and deliver comprehensive risk‑management education programs.
• Perform root‑cause analyses, track data trends, and create action plans for risk mitigation.
• Analyze hospital‑acquired conditions, validate compliance with care bundles, and devise corrective strategies.

Required profile

• Clinical knowledge and experience in hospital or healthcare settings, including surgical, emergency, and inpatient care.
• Familiarity with event and incident reporting requirements and systems.
• Ability to work effectively with senior risk managers, quality and safety leaders, and patient experience teams.

Required skills

• Knowledge of JCAHO, HIPAA, and relevant federal/state regulations.
• Experience with risk‑assessment methodologies and root‑cause analysis.
• Strong data‑analysis and trend‑identification capabilities.
• Policy development and implementation expertise.
